hi! i’m alexis (they/them) —
i’m an artist, writer, teacher and aspiring animist, currently based in kansas city, where i grew up. i’ve previously lived in nyc, san francisco and los angeles. i am sober. some other words i identify with — queer, non-binary, spirit-worker, witch, mutant, (trans)feminist.
my client practice — star service
i consider myself a life-long student of spirit, from my upbringing in a wildly creative family and uniquely methodist church, through to my later experiences of wicca, yoga, mysticism, martial arts and ritual performance.
i’ve been a student of the cycle teachings and active member of last mask community since 2018. i seek to ground all of my work in these teachings, which are an authentic, non-traditional cosmology revealed specifically for contemporary people of diverse backgrounds to step into spiritual maturity, forge healthy working relationships with spirit and share their gifts in alignment with the dreaming of the earth. it is good, fun, challenging, joyous work.
when you engage me as practitioner, you engage the full scope of my years of daily practice, all the teachers, colleagues and students who have been a part of my growth, and the helping spirits with which i tend intimate relationship. i endeavor to teach, share and facilitate from a place of integrity, which includes accountability to the standards of my community and agreements i’ve made with my teachers, and clarity around what i can and can’t offer safely.
my vision for sharing this work through star service is a world where queer and trans people remember their belonging, artists remember the necessity of their gifts and all people remember earth-honoring, soul-tending community as their human birthright.
my creative work
for me, all art has the potential to be transformational, community building, medicine and magic. it is one of my primary paths for personal development and growth and i do my best to embody my relationships with land, earth and spirit in my art work. currently, i’m working on my first full-length work of fiction and dreaming into my next opportunity for land-based, collaborative ritual performance.
i’ve been a dj, nightlife creator and documentarian, director and video artist, post-drag priestess, musician and freelance journalist. my debut book and album (Window, Peradam Press; Window, Ecstasy Records) were released in 2013. my second album (Sapphire) was self-released in 2016. i was a founder and co-curator of san francisco drag and dance institution high fantasy in 2010. i co-founded brooklyn-based ritual drag collective Chez Deep (2012-2016) and alternative performance space Casa Diva (2012-2018).
